Another wet and dreary day, looks like if i'm going to sail this 'summer' i'm going ot have to bite the bullet and just go out in the rain, maybe not on a day like today it still feels like it's blowing a gale. Had to take my CRV (in the pic above to the left) back to the dealer today for a recall on the EGR valve, i'd only managed to re-create the problem intentionally (thats the tester part of me) however a free part with free fitting is not to be turned down, not bad getting recalls at 93,195 miles is it?
This 'free' recall however has cost me over £200.. the Honda dealer in portsmouth is just a little too close to the MarineSuperstore.. what was i to do?, I was there, they were there, it was a beautiful moment!
£15.99 on some Gill sailing gloves - at least if its wet next week on my day skipper I can keep my paws warm
£50 on a Tilly hat.. these things are warranted for life including a 2 year "Free replacement if you loose it" promise - oh and they float too which might come in handy!
£59.99 on 2.5lt of Hempel Blakes dark blue AntiFoul
The rest of the £200 for the more astute of you was spent in Tesco on things like a new sleeping bag and blanket for next weeks Day Skipper.
I have spent most the afternoon Anti fouling Montsurrat as this is the first part of a 3 boat jigsaw puzzle, once she's done, I can take her to the boat yard, beg help on stepping the mast, put her in the water and bring Whisper home.
When I started the Anti foul it was all going great, I couldn't believe how easy it was, i wondered to myself "why does everyone hate doing this so much?" & "maybe I should go into business anti fouling peoples boats, this is so simple" don't get me wrong, anti fouling a bilge keel is easier than a lifting keel sat flat on a trailer!
But 2.5 hours later I have blue painted arms, hands, glasses & face, i look a bit like that blue woman off the X-men.. only less attractive, my back aches and my knee's are killing me
that £9 for the memory foam knee guards in T.K Max last week now seems very cheap.. on my way to Wilkinson tomorrow to pick up another paint tray set for the 2nd coat I might pop back in and treat myself!
While dragging myself under a trailer, and laying on my back trying to reach the underside of the hull and inside of the keels.. the two things going through my mind were:
1. I hope the brakes on this trailer really do work
2. Am i wearing clean undies.. how bad would it be to be found squashed on your driveway by your own boat in yesterdays undercrackers?!
P.s if anyone is after their boat Anti fouling - DON'T ASK ME!
